Griefbustious

Griefbustious is my 2023 Honours project that uses human centred design and gamification for grieving children age 7-11 and their caregivers. It provides the tools to gain a mutual understanding and to create conversation around personal grief journeys. It’s a serious game-based communication resource that follows the metaphorical form of a roller-coaster. The pack of cards encourages people to have hard conversations using proven techniques and to ask personal questions in a safe space. The corresponding ‘reward system’ roller-coaster game pieces, allow people to have a tangible visualization of their personal grief journey, and also creates an exciting element to keeps children engaged.

The ups, downs, ins, outs and complex nature of grief can be thought of as a roller coaster, and therefore Griefbustious, an emotional roller-coaster was born. Griefbustious is based around 10 different emotions that someone may feel when grieving.
